Homemade Ideas For Dog Costumes

Posted by babygrace on Monday Jan 16, 2012 Under Holiday, Pets

Are you ready to start the party and forgot just one little thing -
to dress up your pooch in adorable costumes for dogs, so that he can enjoy and have fun, too?! Here
is a quick and easy last-minute dog costume idea!

Please think safety when dressing up your dog in homemade pet costumes.
The costume should fit neither too tight, so your dog’s movements are
not confined, nor too loose, so he does not trip over the costume. Not
all dogs are fine with wearing a costume, so if your dog does not like
it, take off the costume immediately.

This is the easiest homemade dog costume possible, because all you need is:

a T-Shirt that you are willing to sacrifice for your dog (for a smaller dog you may use your child’s T-shirt);
a needle and a thread;
a few safety pins for tailoring;
scissors;
your dog.

Time required: 15 minutes (excluding time required for choosing the T-shirt).

Instructions on how to make dog costume:

The front of the T-shirt goes on the dog’s back, so choose the shirt and decorations on it accordingly.

The easiest way to tailor the shirt is to have your dog standing up
right and to put the shirt on the dog. Front paws go through the
sleeves and decorations go on the dog’s back. It is likely that your
shirt would be too large on your dog, so note any excessive parts and
pin them down. You will cut them off later. Leave some space at the
bottom of the shirt so your dog can relieve himself and not dirty the
costume.

Take off the shirt (after you’ve pinned excessive parts, the shirt
should still come off easily). Adjust safety pins as necessary and cut
off excessive fabric. Turn your shirt and hand-sew the two parts
together. You can even use sewing machine, if you like. Turn back. Your
homemade dog costume is ready and now you can get the party started!

Gourmet Christmas Dog Treats

Posted by babygrace on Tuesday Nov 30, 2010 Under Holiday, Pets

Christmas dog treats are a great way to show our dogs how much we love them during the holidays. We use treats to reward our pet for doing something special. Many dogs are like children and behave better because they want a treat.

Dog treats are available at pet stores, grocery stores, department stores and specialty shops just to name a few. There are dog treats flavored like beef, chicken, pizza, chocolate and almost any other food you can think of. They come in the shape of people, sausages, bacon and steak bones plus hundreds of other shapes. There are dog Christmas stockings and birthday baskets stuffed with dog treats. People take pictures of their pooches and put them on their Christmas cards. People love their dogs and in turn, their dogs love them back.

Gourmet dog treats have become very popular. Some people make their own while others buy them.

Posted by babygrace on Tuesday Nov 30, 2010 Under Holiday, Pets, Products

Make a Dog Cape and matching Dog Hat in about 30 minutes!

This Christmas dog costumes can be made for any holiday: Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, your country’s Independence Day to name a few. Use fabric colors to match the particular holiday.

QUICK DOG CAPE

Supplies and tools needed:

  • About a yard of fabric. A medium weight, shiny fabric is best
  • About 24 inches [600 mm] of matching or contrasting ribbon, cord or yarn
  • Needle and thread or sewing machine (optional)
  1. Have someone hold your dog while he or she is standing up (use a treat or favorite toy for distraction if need be)
  2. Take your fabric and drape it over your dog’s back, starting at the collar area
  3. The material should cover your dog’s shoulders and come down to about the level of your dog’s tummy, then go back as far as the base of your dog’s tail
  4. Cut off any extra fabric and save for the hat. (If you plan to sew seams around the sides, leave a seam allowance)
  5. Take your tying cord (or ribbon) and cut two pieces about 12 inches [300 mm] long
  6. At each corner of the collar end, gather up a piece of fabric and tie your cord or ribbon tightly around it
  7. Put the cape on your dog and tie in a bow under your dog’s chin!

MATCHING DOG HATThis is a cone-shaped hat, like a party hat

Supplies and tools needed:

  • An empty cereal box
  • Scissors
  • Yarn, ribbon or elastic cord
  • A stapler or tape
  • Nail or hole punch
  • Glue (optional)
  1. Cut a rectangle out of the cereal box, about 8 x 5 inches [200 x 125 mm]
  2. Fold over the cardboard so it forms a cone
  3. Tape or staple at the fold
  4. Cut the bottom level – it will be quite a bit shorter – check to see if it fits between your dog’s ears – adjust as necessary
  5. Glue fabric to cover the cone or tape the fabric on the inside
  6. Punch holes in either side near the bottom
  7. Thread the yarn or ribbon through, tying the knot on the inside of the cone to hide it
  8. Try it on your dog with the matching cape

Voila! Your quick dog costume is ready!

IMPORTANT:

Never leave your dog unattended when he or she is wearing a dog costume!
